Why Sustainable Packaging?
One of our key missions at Greensbury Market is to provide our customers with healthy nutritious meat and seafood without putting pressure on our planet's resources.
We are committed to preparing your food responsibly and sustainably to protect our ecosystem so that future generations can benefit just as we do each day.
From farm to fork, it is estimated by the NRDC that as much as 40% of edible food is lost to landfills each year in the U.S.
The food wasted along the way uses:
10% - total U.S. energy budget
50% - U.S. land
80% - freshwater consumed in the U.S.
Americans are throwing out around $164 billion each year of uneaten food, filling up our landfills leading to excessive methane emissions destroying our planet.
Together, businesses, government and consumers CAN increase the efficiency of our food system.
We believe that packaging is key to reducing the amount of food wasted and Greensbury food is far too delicious to waste!
This may come as a surprise, but one of the best ways to reduce food waste is by freezing it! In fact, 47% less food is wasted when it is frozen.
That's why all of our products are flash frozen and cryovaced immediately on arrival from the organic and sustainable farms and fisheries they're sourced from. This way, no food is spoiled or wasted on its journey to your doorstep.
What's more is that the nutritional value of food deteriorates on its way to your doorstep.
The Cryovac® machine we use at Greensbury to vacuum seal all of our products is designed to deliver the ultimate in protection, locking in the freshness and nutrition of our food and extend their shelf life.
Greensbury is committed to reducing materials and food waste while maintaining product integrity and improving quality by the way we package our products. In this way, we aim to protect our environment while consistently delivering value to our customers by improving overall sustainability.
Frequently Asked Questions
Color of Your Products
Vacuum packaged meat is typically fresher because it is exposed to less oxygen. This can occasionally result in varying surface color of the product. But don't worry, this has no effect whatsoever on the taste or flavor of our food.
Our products are packed into recyclable cardboard boxes lined with a recyclable insulation layer so that your food remains frozen on its way to your door. The insulated liners are made from post-industrial and post-consumer natural fiber, primarily cotton, and are recyclable and biodegradable.
